On Jan. 26, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the liturgical memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, close companions of the Apostle Paul and bishops of the Catholic Church in its earliest days.
1-Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
2-Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
3-Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren. The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
4-Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,
whereunto thou art also called , and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
5-O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called
6-A faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall live also with him. If we suffer, we shall also reign with him.
If we deny him, he will also deny us. If we believe not, he continueth faithful, he can not deny himself.
7-For which cause I admonish thee, that thou stir up the grace of God which is in thee, by the imposition of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power, and of love, and of sobriety.
8-Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace which is in Christ Jesus: And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men, who shall be fit to teach others also.
9-The husbandman, that laboureth, must first partake of the fruits. Understand what I say: for the Lord will give thee in all things understanding
10-But flee thou youthful desires, and pursue justice, faith, charity, and peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. And avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they beget strifes.
